A.J. Bucon grew up in Wheeling, West Virginia, where he graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1982. A.J. graduated from West Liberty State College in 1986. He moved to Wilson, North Carolina, where he taught for 21 years at Ralph L. Fike High School before returning to his alma mater in 2012. 

A.J. has earned numerous accolades throughout his numerous years in education. He has been a National Board Certified teacher since 2011 and was recognized as Wilson County Schools Teacher of the Year in 2001, WTVD11 Neighborhood Hero –Educator of the Year in 2002, The Bonnie McKeever Roberts Award for Excellence in Education in 2016, and The Wheeling Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year for 2020.

A.J. retired from teaching in the spring of 2023 at Central Catholic High School. He wrote his first book, My Corner of the World, about his first year returning to his alma mater to teach. Sunday Mornings and Coffee is his second foray into book publishing. He continues to make regular posts on his blog, Time and Space, and has a podcast entitled What’s Up, Buddy?, which is available on all major podcast distributors. 

A.J. currently resides in Wheeling, West Virginia, and makes regular visits to see his son Robert, who continues to reside in Wilson, North Carolina, with his wife Emily and two children, Justin and Kaylee.
